Local vet hosting "Ugliest Dog" photo contest

Is it silly human behavior that we can't resist an ugly dog contest? What about an ugly cat contest? But, of course we know there's no such thing as an ugly cat.

Nevertheless, in honor of Pet Dental Month, Tiara Rado Animal Hospital, 2245 3/4 Broadway, is holding an "Ugliest Dog" Facebook photo contest. The "ugliest dog" wins a free teeth cleaning. (Sounds like such an "ugly" dog might need more than a teeth cleaning.)

"We're holding this contest to bring attention to the importance of good dental hygiene for your dog," veterinarian and owner Bob Marquis said. "As with humans, it's important to keep your dog's teeth clean to prevent disease and promote good health."

To participate in the contest, entrants are to post their "ugly dog" photos on the Tiara Rado Animal Hospital Facebook wall at www.facebook.com/trahospital. To win, the entrant's friends need to "like" the picture. The entry receiving the most "likes," no matter how cute or ugly wins. And sometimes ugly IS cute when it comes to dogs.

The contest runs through Feb. 28.
