GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Mesa County Animal Services is offering perks when you adopt a pet from their shelter. Project PUPs, "Preventing Unwanted Pets," gives owners taking home a dog, cat, rabbit or potbellied pig discounts on spaying and neutering. Mesa County residents can receive up to $35 off the surgery at any vet participating in the program. Tiara Rado Animal Hospital has been supporting PUPs for nearly two decades.

"It's more effective than any other program that I know. I know that over the years project PUPs has helped sterilize thousands of dogs and cats here in the Valley," says veterinarian Dr. Bob Marquis.

Sadly, tens of thousands of animals are put down in shelters across Colorado each year, because there aren't enough homes for them. PUPs is funded completely by private donations. Vets in the program also donate ten percent of the money they earn from spaying and neutering, back to PUPs.
