GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Food Bank of the Rockies proudly accepted bags and bags of turkeys today.

Tiara Rado Animal Hospital rounded up a truckload of birds to give to the food bank. The delivered turkeys will go to needy families for the holidays.

The animal hospital says they are happy to help the community. The food bank says businesses putting in this effort really helps the overall cause.

"We've been a little light on turkeys this year," food bank manager Starlene Collins said. "Being in need is difficult, but during the holiday season it's a little more painful."

"This is just what we think is a perfect way to help out a little bit," Tiara Rado veterinarian Bob Marquis said.

Collins says the generosity has been wonderful this year with both people and businesses donating.

She says they will start shipping out turkeys next week and they are already gearing up for Christmas.

The food goes to non-profit organizations that help those in need. They cover the entire northwestern slope.
